As these guys are the plant we get asked for most at the moment I thought I would do a post letting you know how to keep your Chain of Hearts looking lush and healthy!
These beauties like lots of light in order to thrive. Yes, they will still survive in more shady areas but do yourself a favour and give them light. Light does not been sun shining on them, just a well lit area either outside under cover, or inside, but definitely not in full sun.
Chain of Hearts like to dry out slightly between waterings and don't enjoy being overwatered. If overwatered they will get 'stringy' with less leaves and eventually suffer from root rot and die. Always check the soil for dampness before watering.
Yes, you can put into a pot without drainage holes but you are giving yourself a challenge as you have to be spot on with your watering this way. Do yourself a favour and get a pot or basket with drainage holes.
We use a liquid seaweed based fertiliser diluted about once every 5 weeks during the warmer growing season.
Whilst these guys will provide lovely clean air, make sure you pay them back by giving them a bit of air circulation if you have had them inside. Open a window (not with cold air blasting on them!) and let them take some deep breaths!
When Chain of Hearts are treated right they look amazing and add a great design aspect to your space so take a little bit of time with them and enjoy the process.
